About 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel	2205 is a duplex stainless steel, with a chemical composition of nearly equal proportions of austenite and ferrite. This combination allows the alloy to be stronger and tougher than standard austenitic steels. Duplex stainless steels like 2205 also maintain good weldability in their thickest sections, and they are much more resistant to stress corrosion cracking than standard austenitic steels. Duplex stainless steel grades have a ferritic-austenitic microstructure, with a phase balance of approximately 50% ferrite and 50% austenite. They combine many of the beneficial properties of ferritic and austenitic stainless steels. The duplex microstructure contributes to the high mechanical strength and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
